Our sauce is fresh and spicy, and chiltepin is the only chile in the recipe. The spiciness is direct and tastes fresh, with no other chiles mixed in to cover it. That is why it sits so well with Sonoran food, where the sauce goes alongside the dish instead of covering it.
Because it is the only chile in the recipe, the flavor is not watered down by other ingredients. It is a sauce for dashes, not spoonfuls: start with a little and adjust to taste.
Artisanal chiltepin hot sauce: what to look for
When you shop for an artisanal chiltepin hot sauce, look for three things: the chile is the main ingredient and not a flavoring, the label says where it comes from, and it comes in a glass bottle. Ours is made by hand with wild chiltepin from Sonora and bottled in 150 ml glass.
